Turkey Sliders

Yummm turkey sliders, super easy to make and super delicious!

Ground turkey is the perfect meat because it is so lean, but has so much flavor!  I tend to turn to cooking with turkey over beef in bad weather when I can’t use my grill because I think these taste even better pan cooked.  While I love my grill, sometimes it’s nice to just get all the cooking done in one spot.

To keep it easy and save time, I like to keep my burger patties simple and use seasonings to flavor them instead of adding a bunch of vegetables like onion, bell pepper, etc.  Feel free to experiment with your turkey seasonings!  Sometimes I will just get a jar of “Burger Seasoning” from the store and use that to mix it up a bit.  I slice up toppings while everything is cooking and then everyone can pick out exactly what they want on top.  Today I am using sliced yellow onion, tomato and avocado to top my turkey sliders, but some great other options could be lettuce, sautéed mushrooms, pineapple, pickles… whatever your heart desires!

1 lb. Ground Turkey

1 Tbsp. Soy Sauce -gluten free

1 tsp. Garlic Powder

a pinch- Crushed Red Pepper

Salt & Pepper

1 large Sweet Potato, peeled and sliced into large circles

1/2 Tbsp. EVOO

Desired Toppings: (Avocado, Tomato, Onion)

  1. Heat oven to 425 degrees.  Peel, and slice sweet potato into large circles.  Put on a baking sheet (I like to line mine with foil) and mix with EVOO.  Spread them out into a single layer.  Bake for 30 minutes, turning slices over halfway through.
2.  Mix together the ground turkey, soy sauce, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper with your fingertips. Shape the turkey meat into 8 patties, keeping in mind that the burger will shrink up a bit after it has cooked. Don’t make the patties too thick or they’ll take too long to cook.
3.  Heat up a skillet over medium heat for a couple minutes (any Teflon pan will do). Once the pan is hot, add the turkey patties and cook for about 3 minutes on each side. Time will vary depending on how hot your pan is and how thick your patties are, but you want the center of the turkey burger to read at 165 degrees F. If you find that the burgers are browning too much before the inside is cooked through, you can put a lid on the pan.
4.  Serve the turkey burgers with any accompaniments you want, and enjoy!
