Crockpot Paleo Cranberry Sauce

By  |

Another family favorite made healthier!  Cranberry sauce and the holidays go hand in hand, so I decided to take a traditional family recipe and make it healthier and all natural.  My family recipe had 1 1/2 cups of sugar in it, and from the research I have done, that is pretty typical.  While my version does have apple juice, honey, and maple syrup to make it sweet, I’ll take nature’s sugar over the fake stuff any day!  After my family taste test, even those that typically don’t care for cranberry sauce said that it was delicious.  My family isn’t afraid to hurt my feelings, so that made me happy 🙂

I like my sauce to be slightly chunky, so I beat it with a whisk to break it up, but keep it pretty solid.  If you prefer it more smooth, another option is to puree in a food processor and then force through a mesh sleeve to remove any chunks.  Then you would return it to the crockpot to thicken.

Orange cranberry sauce is another amazing option with this recipe!  If you prefer that orange flavor, swap the apple juice for orange juice and add some zest as well.  I love both options, but my family prefers the apple juice version.

2- 12 oz. Bag of Cranberries

1/4 c. Honey

1/2 c. Grade A Maple Syrup

3/4 c. 100% Apple Juice

2 tsp. Vanilla Extract

1/2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon

  1.  Add all ingredients to a crockpot and stir to combine.  Cook on high for 2-3 hours or on low for 5-6 hours, or until the cranberries have popped open and the sauce is bubbly.
  2. Smash and blend the sauce with a whisk for 1 minute or until desired consistency is achieved.
  3. Leave the lid off and cook on low until thickened, about 1 hour.  Keep an eye on it towards the end and stir to make sure it doesn’t burn
I hope this Paleo Cranberry Sauce recipe really complements your holiday!
